ReStream: Redesigned and Refined for a Better Twitter Experience

Friday, December 11th, 2009

ReStream has undergone several new changes this week starting with a completely new design. When ReStream launched a few weeks ago, the focus was on building a solid foundation. Unfortunately, this meant the design was neglected. Over the past 2 weeks we’ve focused our attention on the design and usability of the site. It is much easier to navigate, filter lists, view your stream, and share information. But we didn’t stop there.

New Features

  • Tag Integration: You can filter on individual tags to see what the most popular links are over the past 4, 8, 16, and 24 hours. A simple tag search has also been added.
  • Find People to Follow: Twitter is only as good as people who use it. That’s why we’re taking every opportunity that we can to show off the top publishers for each topic, list, and tag. Tag pages also recommend people to follow so you can stay informed on a particular tag.
  • More Lists: We’ve added several more lists along with a new “developer” topic.

Better Performance

Several performance enhancements have been made to the site to provide faster page loads. If you’ve used ReStream in the past you should notice a significant difference after this update.

If you like the new feature, have suggestions for change, or having trouble please let us know. As always you’re welcome to add your comments below.

How to Add an Automated "Popular Content" Plugin to Any Web Site

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Popular ContentA new widget that adds a “popular content” section to any page on your web site is now available for members. This adds a listing of the top 5 pages of your site based the number of page views a page has received. It’s great for recommending other content to visitors that they might be interested in.

Setup

  1. First you need to select the pages you want to display within the widget. To do this, log into your Marketing for Mavens account and go to the “web tracking” tab.
  2. Next, browse to any of the pages you have listed here and click on “edit” or “create new”. When you add a new page or edit an existing page you will see a new check box called “suggest to visitors”. Any page that has the “suggest to visitors” box checked may be displayed in the popular content widget.
  3. Now add the following JavaScript code after your Marketing for Mavens code: <script>getWidgetFeed(“popularcontent”);</script>

    Example:
<!– Marketing for Mavens Code –>
    <script type=”text/javascript”>var accountid=”XX”; var yourdomain=”";</script>
    <script src=”http://marketingformavens/js/mfm.js” type=”text/javascript”></script>
    <script>getWidgetFeed(“popularcontent”);</script>

  4. Next add the following HTML code to your page(s) where you want the widget to display: <div id=”popcontent”></div>

Now when you go to this page, you will receive a list of your most popular web pages. The list will include up to 5 links and it won’t show a link for the page you’re currently on.

Internet Marketing Dashboard Update

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

We just published an update that fixes the list of “Top Citizens” information on the dashboard page. When looking at archived dates, visitors visiting after the archived date were being displayed.

New Application Design

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Today, we unveiled a new site design that should help simplify the user interface. Some pages now use a 2-column view with the main content highlighted on the left and additional sub-information available on the right. We have more design changes that will be rolled out over the next few weeks which will further improve the UI.
