Top 5 Ways Marketing for Mavens is Helping Web Marketers Today

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

It’s our goal to provide the most effective solution to help match your content to your visitors, exceed your sales lead goals, determine your most effective marketing campaigns, and deliver results that you can easily track through a simple reporting system. Here are the top 5 ways Marketing for Mavens is helping you to accomplish your goals:

1. Customize Your Site to Your Visitors

Every person who comes to your site is an opportunity for your business. They are looking for product/service information, support, to solve a business problem, or investment information and each of them is going to walk away from your web site with an opinion based on how well you served them.

To serve your visitors better, we’ve created a solution that will help you match your content to their needs. As each person navigates your site, we learn more about what they want and serve your content and/or promotions that best match this need. Now each visitor receives a customized web experience tailored to their needs allowing you to market and connect more effectively with your visitors.

2. Campaign Management: One View of All Your Campaigns

Now you can manage all of your marketing campaigns in one location. Instantly see who clicked on your campaign links, see which campaigns led to the most PDF, video, and audio downloads. Know what campaigns are driving the most traffic and leads to determine the overall effectiveness of your programs.

3. Detailed Visitor Information

Know who your most loyal visitors are and determine how likely they are to become clients and customers. You can see a detailed history of each visitor on your web site, what videos they watched and documents they downloaded. A grading system is used to help you spot your hot sales leads and unique promotions can be setup per visitor to help convert them into promising leads.

4. Reporting: Just the Information You Need

We’ve focused on giving you just the statistics you need to make business decisions. A 6 month history is broken down into weekly performance for each of your promotions and conversion pages. You can see who clicked on your promotions and who completed your forms. Quickly see how your content is performing over time to determine what promotions are working and where changes need to be made.

5. Manage Limited Web Page Real Estate

We’ve all been there. There’s a constant battle for page real estate, especially on the home page. With Marketing for Mavens you can share the real estate on your web pages and feel confident that your visitors are seeing the content and promotions that are most relevant to them. Content can be displayed based on the number of visits, previous site usage, and, soon, the campaign that a particular person is responding to. You will no longer have to make compromises to display your companies promotions.

Here’s a quick update on some new marketing campaign features that will be coming soon.

    • Linking page views to marketing campaigns. This new feature will allow you to see what page views were the result of a visitor coming to your site from a particular marketing campaign. • See exactly which PDF’s, videos, downloads, and podcasts were viewed/downloaded as a direct result of one of you marketing campaigns.
    • Create customized campaign promotions so you can seamlessly extend the story from your marketing campaign to your web site for each of your visitors.

Not all of the features will be available at the same time. We’d prefer to make smaller more frequent updates so you can report back to us with your feedback and bugs. View Your Web Marketing Campaigns in a Whole New Light

      Thursday, February 12th, 2009

Web marketing tends to be made up of several different systems all creating different campaigns that don’t talk to one another. Email marketing creates campaigns in their tools, the web team creates ad and search campaigns in another system, bloggers post to yet another system, and on and on. When it comes time to measure a campaign, you find yourself tyring to pull different data from all of these systems into a single report so you can assess the effectiveness of the campaign. This is a huge problem.

Lately, we’ve been thinking of ways that Marketing for Mavens can help solve this problem. The latest feature release which went out on Tuesday now includes campaign management. This is just the first phase but it already gives you the ability to create a campaign in Marketing for Mavens and develop a URL tracking code which you can use to track the effectiveness of your online campaigns. This is the start of what will become an in-depth measurement tool which will allow you to see:

      • how many people responded to a campaign
      • where each individual visitor went on your site
      • what PDF’s, videos, and audio files people were interested in
      • what forms were completed

This give you significantly more knowledge and a better understanding of the effectiveness of your campaigns. You know what works and what didn’t work and you can make changes accordingly.

      This is Just the Beginning

Phase 2 is currently underway and will give you the ability to match your web content and promotions to the campaigns people respond to. So if you send out an email campaign, you can extend the campaign to your web site by using Marketing for Mavens to provide content that’s inline with the email message. Your web site now becomes a continuation of the story.

Detailed reporting is also coming in phase 2. Each campaign will be updated in real-time with the latest information all on one screen. Currently, individual campaign pages show you who was interested in your campaigns and you can drill down into each profile to gather more data. In phase 2, the information will be available on the campaign page so you can see all the information at quick glance.

We are very excited about the potential that campaign management brings to Marketing for Mavens. There is a world of potential here and we’re just scratching the surface. In the end, we want to make it as simple as possible for you to manage all of your web marketing campaigns in one location. To get started, join the beta, and email us with your feedback.

Easily Improve Your Web Site's Conversion Rates Today

      Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

The easiest and best way to improve the conversion rates on your web site is to ensure that your callouts, promotions, ads (or whatever else you like to call them…) are in alignment with the needs of the people viewing them. This isn’t rocket science but it isn’t something that is easily done on most web sites.

For starters, you need to have a way to manage your promotions. This can be done through most content management systems. Then you need to track each individual visitor on your site so you can learn about their specific needs. Very few web analytics packages go into this level of detail. Finally, you need a way to process each person’s visitor history in real-time and display the promotion that best matches that visitor’s need when a new web page loads. Again, there aren’t that many options. When you tie these 3 pieces together you have a powerful system for increasing the conversion rates on your web site.

What we’ve done with Marketing for Mavens is put these 3 pieces together in a single package where you can easily manage all of the promotions on your web site. Our tracking code builds a visitor history which allows us to automatically display your most relevant promotions to each visitor in real time. Now, several promotions can share the same real esate on your web pages and you can be confident knowing that each time a promotion is displayed, it is targeted to a specific visitor that wants that information. This will lead to an increase in your conversion rates providing your sales team with more leads. Right now, Marketing for Mavens can be tried for free by signing up for the current beta program.

      Effective One-to-One Web Marketing

      Monday, October 13th, 2008

When I talk about Marketing for Mavens, I’m often asked what the overall purpose is of the company. The easiest way to describe the it is “effective one-to-one web marketing”.

I describe it this way because over the years, web marketing is no longer effective. It has become a catch all bucket in many companies. Web Marketers are expected know how to code, design, advertise, optimize for search, analyze web reports, and gather sales leads. With all of this, we started to get away from the core purpose of web marketing which is to effectively communicate with our visitors.

Marketing for Mavens is working to change this. We realize you don’t have the time and resources to do effective one-to-one marketing on your web site. You probably have hundreds of people visiting your site every day. How do you stop and learn what each person wants and direct them to the content and promotions you offer that fulfills this want?

You do this by using Marketing for Mavens. We track what each individual is doing on your site. You simply give us the content you want to promote and we’ll make sure its displayed to the people who want to see it.

This is all done through the Marketing for Mavens web application. You select the areas on your web site where you want your targeted content, promotions, and offers to appear. Then add this content to Marketing for Mavens. Once added, we’ll automatically promote your content to your visitors based on their visitor history. The more pages they visit, the more accurately we can match your content to the needs of your visitors.

This is all done in real-time which makes your life much easier. Previously it would have been impossible for you to even think you could customize your web pages to each visitor. Now it’s as simple as entering your content into Marketing for Mavens and letting visitors actions determine what content they receive. You don’t need to worry about being all things to all people, hoping that one of promotions will eventually catch the attention of one of your visitors. Now you can make better use of the promotional spots on your site and be confident that your web site is communicating more effectively with each of your visitors.

A/B and Version Testing Your Web Promotions and Offers

      Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

With the recent addition of link tracking, you can now perform A/B Testing (Split Testing or Version Testing as some like to call it). The easiest way to do this is by creating a new tag promotion. You can choose to not tag any of your promotions and Marketing for Mavens will randomly distribute your promotions to your visitors. This will ensure that there are no biases and that the results are based as closely on the content of your promotions as possible. You can also choose to use tags and still do A/B Testing but, to do so, the promotions you’re comparing need to use the same tags to ensure an equal distribution to a similar audience.

Once the promotions have run for several days, you can begin to compare the results across your promotions. For now, you can see how many times a promotion was displayed and see how many times a link in that promotion was clicked. In addition to these statistics, we’re currently adding more statistics and conversion tracking code to further refine the effectiveness of promotions.

Seth Godin: Marketing Genius or Self-Promoter

      Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Seth Godin posted a short blog today on an article about himself in Business Week. It’s interesting to see the divide between people who are Godin addicts and those the think he’s nothing more than a self promoter. Personally, I thoroughly enjoy his books and have read every one of them but you need to go into them with a certain mind set. You can’t expect a step by step guide to Marketing. The truth of the matter is that there isn’t one. For example, how can you write a book about becoming a “purple cow” and then provide “five easy steps” to accomplishing it? If there were five easy steps and everyone followed them, then you wouldn’t be a “purple cow” would you? You’d be like everyone else. That’s the beauty of Godin’s books. He provides the foundation and the principles to great marketing. He gets the wheels spinning in your head. It’s then up to you, as the reader, to figure out how these thoughts and ideas fit your unique situation and develop a Marketing strategy that stands above the noise.

New Videos Now Available: Build Custom Content & Determine Best Potentential Customers

      Monday, June 9th, 2008

I’ve created two new videos. The first is a new overview video showing how to setup a new account, create new promotions, and integrate them into your web site. This is very similar to the previous overview video but it has been updated to show the latest interface and coding changes.

The second video shows how you can use web forms to send visitor data to you Marketing for Mavens (MfM) account. This is important as MfM can help you determine your best potential customers. MfM scores and tags each visitor based on the pages they visit and the content they view. This not only helps you to market the most appropriate content to your visitors but also helps you determine each visitor’s level of interest.

      Watch the new videos.

If you have any questions regarding the new videos, please send me an email.

      Beta Coming in June

      Friday, May 16th, 2008

I’ve decided to push the beta release of Marketing for Mavens to June. The application is coming along nicely and could be ready at the end of May but I feel that taking a couple of extra weeks to add some additional features is going to be well worth the delay.

I’ve been using the application for the past month on some my personal sites and I’m quite impressed by how well it’s working. One feature I’ve been testing is the ability to push the same content across multiple web sites. Using Marketing for Mavens, I can create a promotion that shows up on Blogger, MarketingforMavens.com, and almost any other site where some JavaScript code can be added to the bottom of a web page. This opens up all kinds of possibilities for content distribution using one simple tool.

As the weeks progress, I’ll continue to fill you in on the latest new features and update you on the progress being made. It’s very excited for me to see everything coming together and I look forward to sharing this application with you soon.
